PVC resin sees price hike in North America

North American PVC resin prices increased in June, with strong activity in the construction sector sited as the reason for the increase.  The price increase of an average of 2 cents per pound made for the third increase in just four months.  While the U.S. housing market continues to recover from the recession of 2008 the improved market has increased demand for PVC which led to the price increases.  The housing market grew by almost 11 percent last year leading to an 8.6 percent increase in PVC sales.  Sources report that construction-related end use accounted for approximately 64 percent of North American PVC sales during the first half of 2016, with rigid pipe and tubing seeing growth of 7 percent and extruded windows and doors rising 17 percent.  Fencing and decking also grew by 28 percent.
