TSCA Reform Passes in Congress

This week Congress passed a bipartisan TSCA reform package intended to update outdated laws regarding chemical safety regulations.  The Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) is a 40-year-old piece of legislation that regulates manufacturing, transport, and use of thousands of chemicals in the United States.   The new overhaul of this legislation will provide more power to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to obtain information about a chemical before passing judgment on its uses or risks and also streamlines the regulatory process for the approval of new chemicals entering the market.   Following the final passage by the U.S. Senate of H.R. 2576, the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act, the bill will now go to President Obama for his signature.
