Maleate Plasticizers and Intermediates
Along with ability to supply maleic anhydride (a chemical intermediate, co-monomer, corrosion inhibitor and preservative), ChemCeed also offers regular stock of two maleate plasticizers, dibutyl maleate (DBM) and Dioctyl Maleate (DOM). DBM is commonly used in production of water resistant film as a plasticizer for vinyl resins, often for those applications where vinyl acetates and polyvinyl chloride are co-polymerized. DBM is also comonomer for both acrylic emulsion and vinyl polymers. In paints, adhesives, copolymers and films, it is used as intermediate. Dioctyl Maleate is also used in paints, paper and textile coatings, and adhesives as a co-monomer for emulsion polymer base resins and is an intermediate in surfactants. In soft actylic resin materials (such as dental products), DOM is a polymerizable plasticizer which can overcome leaching and is a resin hardener in aqueous environments. When copolymerized with other monomer (i.e. styrene, acrylates and vinyl acetate), DOM helps to provide elasticity and flexibility to films and helps with resistance to humidity and UV light and evaporation will not affect the emrittlement of the product.
